One weekend I went to visit my parents in Witbank. My friend and I went out to catch up and stopped by the action cricket courts because she wanted to say hi to her boyfriend. As I walked past, Gysie saw me and said to his friend, “Look at that woman — she’s mine.”

Later, he messaged me on Instagram and we started chatting. I was shy, and when we finally met in person, I half-hid behind a table to avoid this handsome guy.

It was during the 2019 World Cup when we ran into each other again. Of all things, Gysie bought me my favourite snack — salt and vinegar chips. The next day we went for coffee, and from the start, we just clicked.

Not long after, Gysie showed up at my house with flowers he’d picked from someone’s garden. We went to a game reserve, had coffee, and shared cheesecake. By then, it was pretty clear this was something special.

On 1 February 2020, he asked me to join him for a campfire in the bush.

And on 28 December 2024, he asked me to marry him at Burtiney Wine Estate in Franschhoek.

From that first glance, we just knew — we couldn’t get enough of each other. We’re meant to be. We belong together.
